About Accident Compensation

When people are in car accidents, one of the first things they want is to be compensated for any damages they have acquired. To get road accident compensation, you need to know how the insurance process works and how to go about filing accident claims.

A car accident is either your fault, or someone else’s fault. The laws vary by state for determining who is at fault, so you need to be familiar with these before you begin driving. If you are at fault in the accident, you will have to file a claim with your insurance company and they will pay for your damages, if you have full coverage. If not, then you will not receive any compensation. One thing you want to keep in mind is that when you file a claim with your insurance and they pay for the damages, it is going to make your premium go up.

Therefore, if the damage to your car is not significant and you can pay for it out of your own pocket, it may be to your benefit to do so. For example, if your damages are just over your $500 deductible, it is probably better for you to pay for it yourself. This will keep any unnecessary charges being added to your premium.

If you need to file a claim, make sure you do so as soon as possible after the accident. Some companies require that it be done within 24 hours. Your insurance company will ask you questions about the accident and get the process started for an adjuster to evaluate the damage to your car. After this is done, they will give you a check for what they think the damage is worth or how much they think it will cost to fix it. Of course, you can expect your next statement to be higher than the last.

If the accident is not your fault, the other party will be responsible for paying for your damages. Assuming they have insurance, you will file a claim with their company. The same process occurs with the adjuster, except it is not your company and your premiums will not go up.
